Supreme Court asked the Centre and states not to register any cases of sedition under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code pending an exercise to review the colonial law.
For the first time in 152 years, an important provision of the sedition or sedition law has been banned.
Petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court with complaints of its misuse by the central and state governments.
