Steel minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh laid the foundation stone of the coke oven plant of Kudremukh Iron Ore Co Ltd (KIOCL).
The foundation stone was laid at Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited, Panambur (Mangalore) and the total cost of the project is about Rs.835 crores.
The project also includes setting up of 200,000 ton per annum ductile iron spun plant and the coke oven project will be completed in about 20 months.
The project is expected to boost steel production in India. It is worth mentioning that India has set a target of producing 300 million tonnes of crude steel by the year 2030.
