  • Steel minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh laid the foundation stone of the coke oven plant of Kudremukh Iron Ore Co Ltd (KIOCL).
  • The foundation stone was laid at Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited, Panambur (Mangalore) and the total cost of the project is about Rs.835 crores.
  • The project also includes setting up of 200,000 ton per annum ductile iron spun plant and the coke oven project will be completed in about 20 months.
  • The project is expected to boost steel production in India. It is worth mentioning that India has set a target of producing 300 million tonnes of crude steel by the year 2030.
