Himachal Pradesh’s snow leopard population has grown from 51 in 2021 to 83 in 2025, a 62% increase, according to a new state-wide survey by the Forest Department. Conducted with camera traps across 26,000 sq km, the study highlights successful community-driven conservation in key areas like Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Pangi Valley. The survey also recorded rare sightings of Pallas’s cat and the woolly flying squirrel, underscoring the region’s rich biodiversity.
