  • The Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates elected Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the President of the country.
  • He has replaced Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who died at the age of 73.
  • Mohammed bin Zayed (MbZ), the former president's half-brother, has been the de facto ruler of the UAE for years now, particularly after Khalifa suffered a stroke in 2014.
  • He has been elected the country's third president.
