  • The Kuwaiti Emiri has re-appointed Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah as prime minister and assigned him to nominate members of the new government.
  • This comes more than a month after the government resigned due to increased tensions with the parliament.
  • The nomination of Sheikh Ahmed resulted in the dissolution of the parliament and the calling of early elections by crown prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who is also in charge of the duties of the governing emir.
  • Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who also oversees the duties of the ruling emir, nominated Sheikh Ahmed, effectively dissolving parliament and calling for early elections.
  • Sheikh Ahmed was first appointed as Prime Minister in July 2022. He was reappointed three months later, in October 2022.
  • In November 2020, an Emiri order was issued appointing Sheikh Ahmad as the deputy chief of the National Guards with a Minister’s degree. In March last year, another decree naming him as first deputy prime minister and minister of interior was issued.
