Sarada Menon, India's first female psychiatrist, died at the age of 98.
She has received numerous honours, including the Padma Bhusan in 1992 for her work in the field of mental health.
She was the country's first female psychiatrist when she started working in 1959 at what is now the Institute of Mental Health (previously the government Kilpauk mental hospital) in Chennai.
In 1984, Menon established the Schizophrenia Research Foundation (SCARF), a non-profit organisation dedicated to the study of schizophrenia.
