  • In October 2023, the World Health Organization has given permission for the use of the second malaria vaccine.
  • W.H.O. The use of a second vaccine called R21 Matrix-M is being recommended to help prevent malaria.
  • R21 Matrix-M has been developed by Oxford University, UK.
  • Its use will start in some African countries as early as 2024.
  • It will become available in other countries in mid-2024.
  • This vaccine will be produced in India by the Serum Institute of India.
  • Two years ago W.H.O. recommended the world's first malaria vaccine, RTS-S.
