A breakthrough study at S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences (SNBNCBS) has revealed a novel function of IgM, the body’s largest antibody. Beyond binding pathogens, IgM acts as a structural “brace,” physically stabilising bacterial toxins and preventing them from damaging cells. This discovery opens new avenues for developing innovative treatments that disarm harmful proteins in the body, potentially revolutionising approaches to infectious diseases.
