  • Saba Shawl has been appointed Superintendent of Central Jail Srinagar, becoming the first Kashmiri woman to head the high-security facility, formalised under Government Order No. 145-Home of 2026 dated March 2, 2026.
  • A Srinagar native with a Master's in Social Work, Shawl previously worked as a senior community development consultant with the Indo Global Social Service Society before entering government service.
  • In 2012, she cleared the JKPSC examination, securing the lone open merit position for Superintendent of Police (Prisons), a rare achievement marking a breakthrough for women in J&K's uniformed services.
  • Her prior roles as Staff Officer to the Director General of Prisons and Public Relations Officer equipped her with the administrative and field experience needed to lead one of the region's most sensitive correctional facilities.
