  • Ruchira Kamboj, India’s first woman Permanent Representative to the United Nations, retired after a distinguished 35-year career in the Indian Foreign Service, during which she served in Bhutan, South Africa, and UNESCO.
  • As a 1987-batch IFS officer and the All India women’s topper of the Civil Services batch, Kamboj played a crucial role in navigating discussions at the UN in New York, especially during the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas conflicts.
  • Kamboj began her diplomatic career in Paris as the Third Secretary in the Indian Embassy to France from 1989-91 and became Permanent Representative/Ambassador of India to New York on August 2, 2022. She is fluent in Hindi, English, and French.
