  • European Parliament President Roberta Metsola announced that Romania and Bulgaria will fully join the EU's border-free Schengen area from 1 January 2025, strengthening EU security and unity.
  • Joining the Schengen Area provides free travel, work and living to more than 425 million EU citizens, as well as non-EU individuals who can come to the EU without any border restrictions for tourist, student or business purposes.
