Lord Meghnad Desai, a globally respected Indian-origin economist, prolific author, and member of the United Kingdom’s House of Lords, passed away at the age of 85. Desai was widely recognized for his scholarly work in Marxian economic theory, including his first book Marxian Economic Theory (1973), followed by Applied Econometrics (1976) and Marxian Economics (1979). In 1981, he published a significant critique of monetarism. He was also a recipient of India's third-highest civilian honor, underlining his contributions to economics and public policy.
