Veteran classical singer Swarayogini Dr. Prabha Atre, a representative of the Kirana Gharana, passed away at the age of 91 in Pune.
Her demise, attributed to a cardiac arrest, marks a significant loss in the music world. Dr. Atre, a recipient of all three Padma awards, was not only an acclaimed classical vocalist but also excelled as an academician, researcher, composer, and author, holding a doctorate in music.
Dr. Prabha Atre, honored with the Padma Vibhushan in 2022, Padma Shri in 1990, and Padma Bhushan in 2002, leaves behind a legacy that extends beyond her contributions to classical music.
Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, alongside dignitaries from various fields, express deep grief over her demise. The loss is deeply felt, considering her multifaceted persona and unparalleled achievements in both music and academia.
