Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani recently launched a national outreach program on Anganwadi protocols for children with disabilities.
The protocol adopts a social model for inclusive nutrition care for persons with disabilities.
This includes screening for early disability signs, involvement in community programs and support to ASHAs and ANMs. Referral support through Teams is included.
The main objective of the protocol is to ensure overall improvement in the well-being of children through early intervention, specialized support and service for infants and young children with disabilities and educating and supporting families.
For the first time, Anganwadi workers will help in screening children with any type of disability.
About 1 lakh children will benefit from this program.
The government will make child care socially acceptable and affordable.
