The United Nations General Assembly has passed the resolution 'Building a peaceful and Better World Through Sports and Olympics' in November, 2023.
This resolution was introduced by France in the General Assembly.
India abstained from voting on this resolution.
73 countries including India did not vote on this proposal.
Of the 193 member states of the United Nations, 120 voted on the proposal. Voted in.
118 votes were cast in its favor while no votes were cast against it.
The resolution recognized the contribution of sport in creating an environment of tolerance and understanding between people and countries, its role in preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism and its contribution against violence and recruitment to terrorists.
