Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav represented India in this meeting.
India is a participant in this convention since 1976.
The meeting was chaired by Naima Aziz of the United States of America.
CITES came into force in July 1975.
Its objective is to ensure that the existence of wild animals and plants is not threatened due to international trade.
The CITES Secretariat is administered by the United Nations Environment Program and is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
