  • In October 2023, South Korea, the US and Japan conducted trilateral joint military exercises.
  • For the first time, a trilateral joint military exercise has been conducted between these three countries.
  • Earlier, the United States used to conduct separate joint military exercises with South Korea and Japan.
  • The training held near the Korean peninsula was to implement an earlier agreement between the three countries to enhance defense cooperation and boost their joint response capabilities against threats from North Korea.
  • B-53 bombers from the American side participated in this exercise.
  • South Korea and Japan are both major US allies in Asia.
  • 80 thousand soldiers of the United States are deployed in these two countries.
  • Naval exercises have been conducted jointly by South Korea, America and Japan but air exercises have been done for the first time.
