  • A new variety of paddy Pusa – 2099 has been developed in November, 2023.
  • This new variety has been developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute.
  • It is an early maturing Japonica rice variety.
  • It ripens in a short period of 120-125 days while maintaining comparable yields.
  • Pusa-2090 is an improved version of Pusa-44.
  • It has been developed mainly for the farmers of Punjab and Haryana.
  • This can provide relief from the problem of stubble burning.
  • The new variety of paddy will give farmers about 30 days to prepare their fields for the next crop.
  • With this, there will be no need to burn stubble in the field.
