In December 2023, Bhutan has announced to building an 'International City' on the Assam border.
This was announced by Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.
This 'International City' will be spread over an area of more than 1000 square kilometers.
It will be established as an economic corridor connecting South Asia to South East Asia through the northeastern states of India.
The name of this project is Gelefu Smart City Project.
The city shares borders with the Indian state of Assam.
