BJP MLA Rahul Narwekar, son-in-law of NCP leader Ramraje Naik has been elected as the new speaker of Maharashtra assembly.
He has become the youngest Speaker of an Assembly across the country.
Narwekar has been associated with Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party before joining the BJP before the 2019 assembly elections.
The post of the Speaker was vacant since February last year after Nana Patole of Congress quit. The Deputy Speaker, Narhari Zirwal, was acting as the Speaker.
