Rahul Narvekar has been elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly.
The decision was taken by Pro-tem Speaker Kalidas Kolambkar. Rahul Narvekar is the sitting MLA from Mumbai's Colaba Assembly constituency on a BJP ticket.
He is the current Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and he is the second youngest person (age 44) to be elected the Speaker of any state in the country.
Narvekar was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council in June 2016 as a member nominated by the Governor.
