  • Rahul Narvekar has been elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. 
  • The decision was taken by Pro-tem Speaker Kalidas Kolambkar. Rahul Narvekar is the sitting MLA from Mumbai's Colaba Assembly constituency on a BJP ticket. 
  • He is the current Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and he is the second youngest person (age 44) to be elected the Speaker of any state in the country. 
  • Narvekar was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council in June 2016 as a member nominated by the Governor.
