  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the groundwork for the first industrial corridor project in south India, which would be built near Tumakuru.
  • It spans around 8,500 acres of land and is being built part of the Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
  • The CBIC project includes the construction of industrial townships in three locations: Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Tumakuru (Karnataka), and Ponneri (Tamil Nadu).
  • It is located at a distance of 300 km from the Mangaluru port. From the Bengaluru International Airport, it is at a distance of 115 km. It will increase the manufacturing sector’s presence in the country.
  • The project aims to contribute towards Make in India initiative of the country. It is in line with the GoI mantra “Reform, Perform, and Transform”.
