On 10 August 2024, President Droupadi Murmu was awarded the Grand Collar of Order of Timor Leste, the highest civilian honor of Timor Leste, by President Jose Ramos Horta in Dili.
President Murmu’s visit to Timor Leste marked the first time an Indian President has visited the country, as part of a three-nation tour that included Fiji and New Zealand from 5 to 10 August 2024.
During her visit, three MoUs were signed between India and Timor Leste: cooperation between Prasar Bharati and Radio Televisaun Timor Leste, no visa requirements for official and diplomatic passport holders, and enhanced cultural exchange programs.
