In a landmark moment for India’s defence history, President Droupadi Murmu became the first Indian President to take a sortie in the Rafale fighter jet. The flight took place at Ambala Air Force Station, Haryana, where she flew for nearly 30 minutes at an altitude of 15,000 feet, piloted by Group Captain Amit Gehani of the 17 Squadron ‘Golden Arrows.’ This marks President Murmu’s second fighter jet experience, following her 2023 sortie in a Sukhoi-30 MKI. Calling the experience “unforgettable,” she praised the Indian Air Force’s professionalism and technological strength. The event not only highlighted India’s advancing aerial capabilities but also symbolized the deep connection between the nation’s leadership and its armed forces.
