  • President Droupadi Murmu has inaugurated the second Indian Rice Congress at National Rice Research Center Institute (NRRI) in Bidyadharpur.
  • The theme of the second Indian Rice Congress is “Changes in Rice Research: Recent Scientific Developments and the World Food Crisis”.
  • The international program will be held for four days till 14th February. 
  • In this Rice Congress, various topics including national food security, global food crisis, increase of rice production in changing climate will be discussed.
  • The congress focused on the global food crisis and the recent scientific developments that will help in increasing the production and yield of paddy crops
  • ICAR-NRRI has developed India's first high protein rice, called CR Dhan 310 and NRRI has also released a high-zinc rice variety, called CR Dhan 315.
  • The ARRW located at ICAR-NRRI organized the congress. ARRW is the Association of Rice Research Workers. It was founded in 1961.
  • Cuttack is called Silver city and has several heritage values like Jagannath Temple (74 km from Cuttack), Konark city (65 km from Cuttack), Nandan Kanan National Park, Chilika lake, etc.
