  • The Nepal government on March 17 declared Pokhara as the official tourism capital of the country during a ceremony at Barahi Ghat.
  • The announcement comes after Pokhara met all the necessary criteria, strengthened its position as a tourist hub and aimed to establish Pokhara as a recognizable international brand.
  • As part of the announcement, commercial activities such as discos, nightclubs and live music venues in Pokhara will now be allowed to operate all night, increasing the city's appeal to tourists and locals.
  • Renowned for its natural beauty, Pokhara offers popular trekking routes, cultural sites, and adventure activities, along with a picturesque setting with Phewa Lake and the Annapurna mountain range, which takes its elevation as a tourism capital after meeting stringent criteria.
