  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the country’s largest helicopter manufacturing facility at Tumakuru in Karnataka.
  • The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) helicopter factory, spread across 615 acres, will initially produce the light utility helicopters (LUH) followed by light combat helicopters (LCH) and later the Indian multirole helicopters (IMRH). 
  • PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the facility in 2016.
  • The facility will be augmented to produce other helicopters such as light combat helicopters (LCHs) and Indian multirole helicopters (IMRHs). It will also be used for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of LCHs, LUHs, civil advanced light helicopters (ALHs) and IMRHs in the future.
