  • The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology presented its 407th Report on Demands for Grants (2026-27) of the Department of Biotechnology on 25 March 2026. The Committee noted significant improvement in fund utilisation in FY 2025-26, with 96.23% of the Revised Estimates utilised, particularly 94.88% under the flagship Bio-RIDE scheme.
  • It appreciated better financial management compared to previous years but recommended realistic budget estimation, multi-year planning, and stronger monitoring mechanisms. The panel suggested focused mission-mode programmes for affordable medical devices, a Venture Development Program for bio-startups, enhanced industry linkages, and better translation of research from iBRIC institutes into clinical and commercial outcomes.
