  • The Parker Solar Probe, launched by NASA, became the first spacecraft to fly through the outer atmosphere of the Sun.
  • The spacecraft sampled magnetic fields and particles in the Sun's upper atmosphere, known as the 'Corona.'
  • Parker was launched in 2018 with the goal of making repeated and increasingly close passes of the Sun.
  • The spacecraft travels at a breathtaking speed of over 500,000kmph, allowing for quick entry and exit to avoid heat damage.
  • It is part of NASA's 'Living with a Star' programme, in which the agency seeks to understand and collect data on various aspects of the Sun-Earth system.
