Shakuntala Chowdhary (102), Gandhian from Assam, who was honoured with the Padma Shri this year, passed away.
She was undergoing treatment for the last 10 years and died of old age-related ailments.
Shakuntala Choudhury led the mission for 20 years amid many developments like Chinese invasion, Tibetan refugee crisis, linguistic movement of 1960s.
In her life, she was also associated with Vinoba Bhave and participated in a one and a half year 'padayatra' in Assam during the last phase of his famous "Bhudan" movement.
