  • Padma Shri awardee and social activist Shanti Devi passed away at her residence in Gunupur, Rayagada district of Odisha.
  • Shanti Devi was a well-known social worker in Odisha.
  • She was born on 18 April 1934. The social worker started a small ashram in Koraput and later founded the Seva Samaj in Rayagada. Shanti Devi did a lot of work for the progress of tribal girls.
  • As one of the leading pioneers of the social service movement, she was awarded the Padma Shri, one of the country's most prestigious civilian awards, in the year 2021.
