  • Padma Awardee and renowned nuclear physicist Bikash Chandra Sinha (aged 78) passed away in Kolkata due to age related ailments. He was born in Kandi, Murshidabad, West Bengal in 1945.
  • He served as the chairman of the board of governors, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur, West Bengal (WB).
  • He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Prime Minister of India from 2005 to 2009 and also nominated to the council again in 2009.
  • He was also served as the President of the Indian Physics Association from 2007 to 2010.
  • He was honoured with Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2010 in the Science & Engineering field.
