Padma Awardee and renowned nuclear physicist Bikash Chandra Sinha (aged 78) passed away in Kolkata due to age related ailments. He was born in Kandi, Murshidabad, West Bengal in 1945.
He served as the chairman of the board of governors, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur, West Bengal (WB).
He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Prime Minister of India from 2005 to 2009 and also nominated to the council again in 2009.
He was also served as the President of the Indian Physics Association from 2007 to 2010.
He was honoured with Padma Shri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan in 2010 in the Science & Engineering field.
