18-year-old Payal Nag from Odisha created history by winning gold at the World Para Archery Series Final in Bangkok on April 4, 2026.
She defeated her idol Sheetal Devi with a score of 139-136 in her first senior international competition.
Payal lost both arms and legs at age eight in an electric shock accident and grew up in an orphanage.
She was trained by coach Kuldeep Kumar Vedwan using a special prosthetic support and mouth-shoulder technique.
Payal became the first quadruple amputee in the world to win an international gold medal in archery.
Her success is a big inspiration for para-sports in India.
