  • Renowned Mohiniattam dancer and Padma Bhushan award winner Dr Kanak Rele breathed her last at age 85 after suffering cardiac arrest.
  • She was awarded a state funeral at Vile Parle crematorium. 
  • The consummate artiste had an illustrious career spanning 60 years and was founder-director of The Nalanda Dance Research Centre in Juhu.
  • She was awarded the first Guru Gopinath National Puraskaram of the Government of Kerala. 
  • She obtained law degrees however she chose dance as her career field. 
  • Throughout her lifetime, this Indian Dancer was honoured with various prizes and awards including Padma Shri (1989), and Padma Bhushan (2013), among others.
