Jesmond Tutu, the Nobel Peace Prize winner and former archbishop of South Africa, passed away at the age of 90.
Jesmond Tutu was one of South Africa's most well-known figures, both at home and internationally. He was the last South African to earn the Nobel Peace Prize while still alive.
In South Africa, he is regarded as an anti-apartheid symbol.
Desmond Tutu has been referred to as the country's moral compass.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his contribution to the campaign to end apartheid.
He also received the Gandhi Peace Prize in India in 2007.
