·         Union Road Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari launched the Artificial Intelligence-powered project 'iRASTE'.

·         The objective of this project is to help reduce road accidents, understand the factors responsible for these incidents and devise solutions to reduce them.

·         iRASTE stands for "Intelligent Solutions for Road Safety through Technology and Engineering".

Important facts

About the project:

v  The project has been taken up on a pilot basis in Nagpur, Maharashtra with an aim to reduce accidents in the city by 50 percent.

v  The project has been jointly undertaken by Centre, Intel, INAI, IIIT-Hyderabad, CSIR-CRRI (Central Road Research Institute), Mahindra & Mahindra and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).

v  The main focus of the project will be on vehicle safety, mobility analysis and road infrastructure safety to move towards 'Vision Zero' accident scenario.
