The Atal Innovation Mission and Niti Aayog initiated the Vernacular Innovation Program to provide access to the innovative ecosystem in 22 mother tongue languages.
Its goal is to give vernacular innovators an equal footing. AIM will train a vernacular task force (VTF) in each of the 22 languages included in the programme.
Each task force will be made up of teachers of vernacular languages, subject matter specialists, and technical writers.
The AIM will also launch a train-the-trainer programme in collaboration with IIT Delhi. It will teach design thinking and entrepreneurship.
According to the 2011 census, only 0.02 percent of Indians were fluent in English. Only 10.4% of Indians use English as a second, third, or fourth language.
India will be the first country to launch a multilingual innovation ecosystem initiative.
