·         Senior BJP MLA from Bhuj constituency in Kutch district, Nimaben Acharya, has become the first woman Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly after being unanimously elected to the post.

·         Acharya, 74, a gynecologist by profession, has won the seat of MLA for the fifth time from Bhuj-Kutch

·         For the first time since the formation of Gujarat in 1960, a woman has been elected as the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly.
