  • The Netherlands is set to swear in 38-year-old Rob Jetten as its youngest and first openly gay prime minister in The Hague. The new government will be formally installed by Willem-Alexander at Huis Ten Bosch Palace.
  • Jetten’s Democrats 66 secured a narrow victory over Geert Wilders’ Party for Freedom (PVV) in the October snap elections. After 117 days of negotiations, D66 formed a coalition with the Christian Democratic Appeal and the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy, controlling 66 of 150 seats.
  • The coalition has pledged continued support for Ukraine, adherence to NATO defence spending targets and stricter migration policies. Jetten’s appointment marks a significant generational shift, though his minority government faces challenges in securing parliamentary support.
