  • Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra on Friday clinched the javelin throw competition at the Lausanne Diamond League with a best throw of 89.08m.
  • He became the first Indian to clinch the prestigious Diamond League Meeting title with a win in Lausanne.
  • Prior to Chopra, only discus thrower Vikas Gowda represented India by finishing in the top three at the Diamond League competition.
  • Neeraj recently helped India win a silver medal in the world athletics championships. He became only the second athlete to achieve so, following Anju Bobby George (2003). 
  • Neeraj won the silver medal in the final by throwing the javelin 88.13 metres, which was good for second place.
