  • National Women’s Day is celebrated on February 13, every year. 
  • The day marks the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu. 
  • Referred to as the ‘Nightingale of India’, Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13, 1879.
  • Sarojini Naidu was the first female governor of the United Provinces, which is the modern-day state of Uttar Pradesh. Due to her political and academic prowess, she was chosen in 1925 to lead the Indian National Congress.
  • She was not only a freedom fighter, but she also fought a lot for the rights of women.
  • The world recognises Sarojini Naidu for her literary accomplishments and was first recognised as the 'Bul Bule Hind' when her collection of poems was published in 1905 under the title Golden Threshold.
  • On the occasion of Sarojini Naidu's 135th birth anniversary, that is, on 13 February 2014, the celebration of National Women's Day was started in the country.
