  • In India, National Mathematics Day is celebrated on December 22 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. 
  • Every year, this day is celebrated across the country with various events and activities that highlight the importance of mathematics and its contributions to our society.
  • It is also celebrated as the National Statistics Day.
  • Ramanujan made significant contributions to number theory, infinite series, continued fractions and analytic functions. 
  • His work has inspired many mathematicians over the years and his legacy continues to live on through National Mathematics Day in India.
  • The Ramanujan Math Park, a centre for practical mathematics learning, opened its doors on December 22 in 2017 in Kuppam, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
  • National Mathematics Day in India was first celebrated in 2011.
