In India, National Mathematics Day is celebrated on December 22 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Every year, this day is celebrated across the country with various events and activities that highlight the importance of mathematics and its contributions to our society.
It is also celebrated as the National Statistics Day.
Ramanujan made significant contributions to number theory, infinite series, continued fractions and analytic functions.
His work has inspired many mathematicians over the years and his legacy continues to live on through National Mathematics Day in India.
The Ramanujan Math Park, a centre for practical mathematics learning, opened its doors on December 22 in 2017 in Kuppam, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
National Mathematics Day in India was first celebrated in 2011.
