The birth anniversary of famed mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan is commemorated every year on December 22 in India as National Mathematics Day.
The day recognises the value of mathematics in our lives and encourages people to improve their self-learning and reasoning abilities.
In 2012, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh announced December 22nd to be National Mathematics Day.
Srinivasa Ramanujan was nicknamed "The Man Who Knew Infinity" because of his boundless enthusiasm for and contribution to mathematics.
