  • National Legal Services Day is celebrated every year on 9 November in the country.
  • Its objective is to ensure access to fair, impartial and accessible justice process to all citizens of the country.
  • On this day, people from vulnerable and deprived sections of the society have to gather help and support to get free justice.
  • Celebration of this day every year was started by the Supreme Court of India since 1995.
  • National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) was constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
  • The Chief Justice of India is the Chairman of NALSA.
  • It is noteworthy that NALSA ensures free legal aid to the people as well as coordinates between various legal state service authorities and district legal service authorities.
  • Article 39 (A) of the Constitution provides for providing free legal aid to the poor and weaker sections of the society to promote justice on the basis of equality of opportunity.
