Every year on December 24, National Consumer Rights Day is honoured.
The Consumer Protection Act of 1986 obtained Presidential assent on this day in 1986, and came into effect.
The Act intends to protect customers from various forms of exploitation, such as defective goods, service deficiencies, and unfair trading practices.
The day's objective is to educate customers about their rights and obligations.
The distinction between World Consumer Rights Day and National Consumer Rights Day is sometimes misunderstood. While they both serve the same function, they occur on separate dates. Every year on March 15, World Consumer Rights Day is observed.
