  • Central Home Ministry approves name changes for eight railway stations in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, including Furastganj to Tapeshwarnath Dham, Kasimpur Halt to Jayas City, Jayas City to Guru Gorakhnath Dham, Bani to Swami Paramhansa, Misrauli to Maa Kalikan Dham, Nihalgadh to Maharaja Bijli Pasi, Akbarganj to Maa Kalikan Dham, and Varisganj to Amar Shahid Bhale Sultan.
  • Amethi, a high-profile Lok Sabha constituency, is currently represented by Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Smriti Irani. 
  • The decision to rename the stations comes amidst ongoing political activity, as Irani gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, contesting from Amethi once again.
