  • Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries, H.D. Kumaraswamy, introduced the upgraded Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS 2.0).
  • This enhanced system aims to improve the monitoring of steel imports, support the growth of the domestic steel industry, and provide better data for policy-making and identifying production growth areas.
  • SIMS 2.0 features API integration for better quality control and efficiency, a robust data system for accurate and consistent data entry, and risk management capabilities to identify and manage risks, including imports from non-BIS licensed sources.
  • It was developed with contributions from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and MSTC Ltd., a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel.
