Mikheil Kavelashvili, a former footballer and seasoned politician, has assumed the role of Georgia's new president amid growing political divisions in the country.
Kavelashvili, who once played for Manchester City in the 1990s, previously served as a member of parliament with the Georgian Dream party and now leads Georgia during a period of significant pro-Russian and pro-Western political tensions.
