On January 30, 2023, India is observing 'Shaheed Diwas' to pay homage to all the freedom fighters who have sacrificed their lives for the country.
The day is also marked as the death anniversary of the nation's 'Bapu', Mahatma Gandhi.
On this day in 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in the compound of Birla House in New Delhi by Nathuram Godse.
Every year, on January 30, India celebrates Martyrs' Day by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi's Samadhi at Raj Ghat in Delhi.
Notably, Martyrs’ Day is also observed in India on March 23 to pay respect to Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar, who was hanged death on this day in 1931.
