The Maldives has become the first country in the world to achieve triple elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis, earning validation from the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised the achievement. Over 95% of pregnant women in Maldives receive antenatal care, with nearly universal testing for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B. Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim affirmed the nation’s commitment to sustaining this progress, calling it a historic milestone reflecting Maldives’ dedication to protecting mothers, children, and future generations.
